30 Days running

Hi, my name is Richelle. I mum to 3 gorgeous young ladies, raising my girls and trying to do the best I can.

I’ve been selected to star in a ground-breaking TV show. This brand new travel series will take me away to a secret location for 6-days of fun and adventure, all captured by an award-winning film crew to be broadcast nationally on Seven Networks 7TWO.

As a cast member I get to raise  much needed funds and awareness for mental health, as all NETT proceeds from the show will go toward my nominated cause.

So many people are personally affected by mental health in some form or another. Be that personally or knowing and supporting  someone that is suffering. This cause is particularly close to my heart as 3 years ago my then 7 year old daughter emotionally regressed after a life changing incident and ultimately lead us down a path to being diagnosed with Autism, ADHD and many Anxiety disorders. Her mental health declined so much so, that I was forced to leave full time employment and she had to leave her current school. It took over 2 years of a combination of counselling, behaviour classes and finally medication to get her to a lesser anxiety level and be able to stay in mainstream school. It can still be a struggle and often I am called to her school to collect her when she simply can't cope with the day.

Everyday she strives to fit in, to understand the thinking of kids who don't have ASD and adjust her own thoughts and behaviours. She is so strong and inspiring, the world is a large and frightening place for her. Yet she sets off into it each day with the willingness to try harder to conform and be "a normal kid" as she says.

There are so many Australians of all ages that suffer in silence out of shame or in waiting for correct diagnosis. The process is often long and many times very costly. Even after finally getting the right diagnosis it can then be a long wait to find the right support and often a life long battle.

I told my daughter that I am raising funds for all Australians that suffer from Mental Illness and it is she who has inspired me to do so. She was so happy and the smile that lit up her face with almost a tear, really inspired me to aim high in my goal.

Why am I fundraising and how can you help me?

Mental illness is a silent killer.  The symptoms and signs are not always visible or easy to recognise and in fact, individuals struggling with mental health conditions may be the people you would least expect. More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25 and suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44. Approximately 1 in 5 Australians are suffering from mental illness in any given year. This has to change! You can help bring these struggles out of the dark and join me in tearing down the stigma and discrimination surrounding one of our leading health issues.  By donating to my fundraising campaign you’re helping me to highlight the importance of empowering one another to feel safe and supported in asking for help.

Funds raised throughout this project will be granted to Head Space https://headspace.org.au/
