Xander Cross hasn't added a story.
My Name is Xander Cross, I am 27 years old and I have suffered from Anxiety and Depression for the majority of my life and it continues to have an impact on many parts of my life today. I have been very fortunate to have some amazing support networks that have helped me through some extremely challenging times of my life. Without these support networks, I would have become another statistic and lost my battle with mental illness. Unfortunately, many Australians have not had the same experience dealing with their mental health with 1 in 5 people fighting that battle, and an estimated 65,300 Australians attempting suicide each year due to mental illness. This has to STOP!
Through Charity TV Global I have been granted this amazing platform to make my vision become a reality. My cause is very simple. I want to bring the struggles of dealing with mental health out of the dark and tear down the stigma and discrimination surrounding one of our leading health issues. To achieve this I will be raising funds that will go directly to Head Space. More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25, Head Space aim to address this critical gap, by providing tailored and holistic mental health support to 12 - 25 year olds. With a focus on early intervention, they work with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.
Without the very same focus and support that Head Space provide, I wouldn't have the tools needed to help me manage my mental illness and the capacity to seek solutions to help me come out the other side. This cause is extremely close to my heart and almost everyone has known what the effects of mental health can cause, whether it be from dealing with it yourself and witnessing family and friends suffer. This is why I am asking for you support and your help to reach my goal. Your donations are going to go an extremely long way and help many young people get the chance at life that they deserve. Im so excited to be going on this journey and even more excited to achieve the goal of reaching $10k. I KNOW WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER!!! WE ARE NEVER ALONE!!!
Why am I fundraising and how can you help me?
Mental illness is a silent killer. The symptoms and signs are not always visible or easy to recognise and in fact, individuals struggling with mental health conditions may be the people you would least expect. More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25 and suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44. Approximately 1 in 5 Australians are suffering from mental illness in any given year. This has to change! You can help bring these struggles out of the dark and join me in tearing down the stigma and discrimination surrounding one of our leading health issues. By donating to my fundraising campaign you’re helping me to highlight the importance of empowering one another to feel safe and supported in asking for help.
Net proceeds raised throughout this project will be granted to headspace https://headspace.org.au/
