Hi, my name is Sandy and I live in sunny Townsville North Queensland. I have always loved dogs and was lucky enough to have my first dog when I was 7. He was given to me as a birthday present from Aunty Gwen, I named him Dusty and he was a Dachshund. Dusty taught me how to care for and love an animal unconditionally which I am forever grateful for.

Since then I have met my adoring husband, Brad who has shown me many other animals to love and respect, including Stumpy Tailed lizards (shingle back), of which we owned 4, reptiles have always been a fear of mine until I met these lovely reptiles. Previously we had 3 dogs Rex (Mastive X), Mizzi (cattle dog X) & Holly (Staffy X). Both my husband and I have experienced the cost of vet bills due to two of our dogs being bitten by brown snakes, which nearly ended their lives. Holly our little Staffy baby got cancer when she was about 9, thankfully we were able to afford the Chemotherapy which gave us all another 4 years of joy with her. That along with a caring and compassionate vet allowed us to keep our girl alive. Now we have a rescue dog called Marlee (Australian cattle dog X) and a cat called Gizmo (a tortoiseshell mix). Marlee was adopted from the RASPC when she was a puppy. At the time we decided to adopt her we were told she was completely deaf and they understood if we wanted to select another dog. It didn’t take us a moment to decided on the spot to take her as she was just irresistible regardless. Marlee being deaf has made us love her more and changed the way we interact with dogs, it has been a real learning curve but certainly worth it as she has become the best dog (in our eyes). She attends doggy daycare - Happy Pawz Townsville twice a week which she just loves so much and helps her to adapt to other humans and to integrate with large and small dogs, a godsend. Gizmo is such a character. She enjoys going for her afternoon bush walk with us every day and loves to camp.

Brad and I have a wonderful family including - Vegas Fitzmaurice, my brother in law. It is because of Vegas I know about Pet Medical Crisis and the incredible work they do to help people in need. Vets costs are often very expensive as we learned first hand, due to the chemotherapy and anti-venom shots we have needed to keep our dogs alive and well. It is these reasons why I am so honored to represent such an outstanding organisation as PMC. PMC helps people who are not in the situation financially to be able to spend as much time with there beloved animals they should be. This amazing not-for-profit group makes such a massive difference, and I know I can do even more to help them grow and expand. It is here that I ask for your help to help others in need that can not do it on their own. I am grateful that I have an opportunity to be part of an organisation I feel that is close to my heart.

I’m excited to announce I’ve been selected as an official cast member of the TV series Adventure All-Stars. Produced by the acclaimed Charity TV Global, this ground-breaking media format provides a platform for me to raise funds and exposure for a philanthropic cause that I am now very passionate about. Pre-filming I’m proud to be raising funds to support disadvantaged owners, pensioners and Veterans meet the high cost of veterinary care for their beloved pet.

Why am I fundraising and how can you help me?

Pet Medical Crisis (PMC) was established in 2010 and since then has distributed over $500,000.00 to 600+ pets and continues to provide a much-needed service to our community. PMC raises funds to assist with the costs associated with medical intervention for companion pets. The pet owner’s inability to fund the care would otherwise result in death or significantly impact the quality of life. I am hoping with my fundraising, and your help, I can contribute that Pet Medical Crisis expanding to become a nationwide force.

Net proceeds raised throughout this project will be granted to Pet Medical Crisis  https://petmedicalcrisis.com.au/
