Hello everybody, my name is Adrian Hurley, and like many people, my life has been impacted by mental health as well as mental illness.

Mental illness affects different people in different ways and often it's hard to tell if someone is struggling with their mental health. Most people suffer in silence and sometimes it's only when it's too late do we realise that someone close to us needed help.

As a father of two awesome children, husband to an amazing wife, a son, a brother and an uncle, it's important that we speak about mental health and how it impacts our lives before it's too late.

Having lost my best friend at 16 years of age, and more recently my own father to suicide, I've seen first hand the devastating effects of silence.

I am also coming to terms with the fact that I struggle with my mental health from time to time and have been guilty of hiding this from those that care for me.

Although admitting that there is a problem is the most important step in any healing process, it's also the hardest step sometimes.

I really hope that you will join me on this mission for mental health by donating to my, or other people's campaigns, sharing our campaigns and most importantly, talking about mental health with those closest to you.

Why am I fundraising and how can you help me?

Mental illness is a silent killer.  The symptoms and signs are not always visible or easy to recognise and in fact, individuals struggling with mental health conditions may be the people you would least expect. More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25 and suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44. Approximately 1 in 5 Australians are suffering from mental illness in any given year. This has to change! You can help bring these struggles out of the dark and join me in tearing down the stigma and discrimination surrounding one of our leading health issues.  By donating to my fundraising campaign you’re helping me to highlight the importance of empowering one another to feel safe and supported in asking for help.

Funds raised throughout this project will be granted to headspace
